Scope and Contents
The Helene Herzig papers consist of course work, correspondence, financial records, memorabilia, biographical information and photographs. The bulk of the collection provides documentation of her studies and the courses she took at Mount Holyoke College. The course work includes notes, examinations, papers and diagrams for art, English literature, French language, history, political science, psychology, religion, Spanish literature, speech, and zoology. The course work also contains maps of South America used for Spanish course work and note cards on dance and Spanish history. The bulk of the correspondence dates from 1945-1949 and consists of letters from departments and groups on campus, many of which were received by her as a prospective student. The correspondence also includes a letter from 1986 written by President Elizabeth T. Kennan. The financial records consist of statements from 1947-1949. The memorabilia consists of statistics in Spanish, an x-ray report from a 1947 tuberculosis test, a sheet listing possible courses for her interdepartmental major, and a pamphlet describing a junior year abroad program in Zurich. The biographical information contains press clippings regarding Herzig from 1945-1949. There are two photographs of Herzig: one taken circa 1949 and the other after her marriage.
