Historical Note
The Ford-Mellon Research Scholar Program for Minority Students was instituted in 1989 after a four-year grant was awarded by the Ford and Mellon Foundations to encourage minority students to consider teaching careers at the college or university level. Mount Holyoke, Carleton, Oberlin and Williams were the participating colleges. Students with research proposals in all disciplines were encouraged to apply.
