Abstract

The Mount Holyoke College Diplomas Collection contains certificates presented to Mount Holyoke students upon completion of their studies. Documents in the collection were issued for members of the Class of 1839 through the Class of 1941, primarily for those who completed the undergraduate program although there are also several diplomas for recipients of Master's degrees. Diplomas from 1839-1888 are in English; those from 1889-1941 are in Latin. The collection also includes an original pencil sketch of the vignette designed by Orra White Hitchcock which appeared on diplomas from 1844-1888. The sketch is attached to a prototype of a diploma dating from 1840.
