Biographical / Historical
Gregory Prince was appointed fourth president of Hampshire College in May 1989. He was Associate Dean of the Faculty at Dartmouth College, and a professor of history. Prince graduated from Yale in 1961, and received his Ph.D in American Studies from Yale in 1973. At Dartmouth he chaired numerous committees, including the Accreditation Committee Subcommittee Programs. He was also a member on Intellectual Enviroment, and the council for Interdisciplinary Programs. He was also a member of the native American Council, the Affirmative Actions Reveiw Board, and the Commitee to Plan Year-round Operation and Co-education. Prince is a trustee of the Montshire Museum of Natrual Science, a trustee of the Washington Campus ( a consortium of Colleges and Universities supporting a public policy education program in Washington, D.C. ), and a Fellow with the Associate of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs. He was the President of the Yale-China Association, a member of the Executive Committee for the Ivy league, MIT, Chicago, Stanford Language Consortium, and on the Board of Govenors at the University Press of New England.
